About Brainwave Frequencies

Measuring consciousness

Binaural Beat technology is based on the principle of brainwave entrainment. The brain will adjust the frequency of it's brainwaves(measurable on an EEG) to repetitive external stimuli. The stimulus can be visual or auditory. The tools presented on this site achieves their objectives by using auditory stimulation.

Brainwave frequencies
It is generally believed that the frequency measured by an EEG indicates the state of consciousness the owner of that brain is experiencing at that moment. Four ranges of brainwave frequencies are normally used:
Beta
This ranges from 14Hz - 30Hz. Normally indicates a highly alert and focused state of mind.
Alpha
This ranges from 8Hz - 14Hz and is characterised by a relaxed yet alert state of mind. Also light pleasant concentration type meditation.
Theta
This ranges from 4Hz - 8Hz. Usually accompanied by drowsy state of mind or deep meditation and first stages of sleep.
Delta
This ranges from 0.5Hz - 4 Hz. Deep dreamless sleep as well as "no-thought" meditation.
